Part 3 Using Free Video Editing Software | Create and Edit Movies

May 21, 2010 · Filed Under Genealogy

In Part 3 of How To Create A Family History DVD, I look at how to use free video editing software to edit the video recording of our slideshow presentation.

The video editing software program I use is Windows Movie Maker 2. With Movie Maker you can edit movies, fix errors in your slideshow and add music using free video editing software.

If you don’t want to go through all the hassle of creating a slideshow presentation, Movie Maker also allows us to create a video using just photos or images, where we can add voice-overs or music to create a high quality movie, which we look at the end of today’s video.

Windows Movie Maker is a free video editing program which comes with most new PCs but you can download Movie Maker 2.1 for XP here if needed.

Hope you enjoyed this how to use free video editing software video and welcome any comments.

Sorry one thing I forgot to mention as I had to keep the YouTube video under 10 minutes.

The slideshow with just the photos in it, instead of adding music, you could add a voice over of say your parents giving a personal account of their wedding day.

The more I read about this software I can see a lot of great things that one can do with it. I also like your idea about the voice over of parents telling about their wedding day or whatever. One of my cousins initiated all of us to write a story about one of our family members, a memory of staying at camp or whatever each one of us had a fond memory of. Then she had photocopies of papers from Ellis Island ect. and she put this all into a file on the computer named it, Memories. Our problem was a lot of the family members didn't have computers, and some couldn't download it for whatever reason. She ended up making dvd's for a lot of those that didn't like computers (go figure). But how nice if we had used this WindowsMovie Maker then everyone could of watched it on their t.v. I love the idea.
